The Water Meadows [Winchester]

Flowering down the meadow view

grass lush and head swayed poppies.

Dong a song the distant church bell,

the butterfly’s aimless purpose pursue

along corridors of change wind breeze.

*

Hummed stillness across the water pond,

frenzied the wingéd dancers.

Buttercups made golden in the sunshine

peek’a'boo playing among the trees beyond,

which also hide squirrel from casual glancers.

*

Heavenly scented layering on the air,

unmoved as yet by the sparrow wing,

all bathed in the summer evening glow,

beauty of nature the water meadows share,

with no one and with all and with everything.

*

Closing the day down clouds come veiling

the last pipes of the rude blackbird rising.

It has been a day of shouts and laughter,

but now the velvet quietude is prevailing

the approaching shadows of nightfall advising.

  1. there’s a harmony in perfect stillness

  2. ah poem, i like poem and i wrote poems before. i had also the opportunity to illustrate artworks for a book of poem. i like doing it that’s why i once focused on drawing visuals derived from poems…keep it up.

  3. This is my favourite most place in the world, the poem is virtually unedited, Amanda will know that a poem rarely satisfies it’s author in it’s original form, but this one came in a 10 minute gush direct on to the blog. hmm

  4. I especially love the sweet image of the clouds “veiling”. Beautiful!

  5. Hello Gems [my best friend is called Gemma,] yes I noticed this perspective in your work and the connection it might have with the girl on the swing, dreaming. Thank you for visiting

  6. I like it. Nicely written.

  7. Hello PMAP I favourited your site and will check it out when I have time-I didn’t see a place where I could easily drop you a line-now there’s a thing, do you have poetry on tap? I know some people do and it’s as good as, but with me it is not so.

  8. Thank you gentledove. By poetry on tap do you mean am I able to write a poem in a very short amount of time? If so, then yes. Within around three hours if needed.

  9. Thanks for your comments on my blog, sitting on my old rocking chair, yours is very, very interesting, I love poetry to the extreme that I dare to write small ones in english, that not being my language. Keep in touch, I’ll visit you frequently, Luisa

  10. Hello Luisa, it’s lovely to see you, looking at those pics you certainly have a poetic eye, take care now and stay sweet. Suz
