“Our heavy chains were struck off in the stone-flagged courtyard and we were goaded along with blows along dark passages thick with dirt. My companions were thrust in small groups into cells along a gallery. Loud protests came from inside them “there’s no room here! we’re suffocating already!”

”In the weeks that followed I was put through the whole secret police gamut. Water torture, in which water is pour down a funnel until the stomache is bursting, then it is kicked. I was left for hours with two wolf-dogs who leap at the slightest movement, they are trained not to bite but their yelping and snarling and the snap of their fangs an inch away from your throat kept you rigid with fright.”

When they could not force us to betray our brethren by all their interrogations and tortures they would beat our children before our very eyes-even to death if that was thought necessary.”

”Tape recorders with what we were certain were the screams of our wives being beaten were played in the cell corridors. Other days cats were hung by their back legs just outside our tiny cell windows, in time they began to scream and cry pitifully, we covered our ears and buried our heads in our arms. They left them there to die.”

“Christians were tied to crosses, the crosses were then put on the floor and dozens of prisoners were obliged to fulfil their bodily necessities upon their faces. The crosses were then erected for the amusement of the communists who stood around jeering “look at your Christ, how beautiful He is.”

Some people may find the title of this page provocative in as much as the story told relates to communism in a communist bloc country and since communism is no longer [for the time being at least] the governing political ideology it is no relavant to today. People have a strange idea that the world has become a more civilised and benign place and yet the events told here and the attempt by the Nazi regime to annihilate Jewry from the face of the earth in the most evil and cruel way devisable by the human mind have happened within the last hundred years and is still within living memory.

Both the Nazi power and the Communist power are examples of what happens when militant atheism is in the ascendancy and the place of government even in the most civilised and advanced nations. It is happening this very moment in China now recognised as the leaders of the economic nations.

Can you imagine the fear of the Jewish people in Germany during the 1930s and 40s it spread across all the European countries the Germans occupied. Less is said about the persecution of bible-believing christians but they also were persecuted, the Catholic church having come to some understanding with the Nazi regime. In communist Russia the Jews were also persecuted and this also spread among the eastern European nations that were subjugated.

Neither the Christians or the Jews had an argument per se with these regimes but the regimes themselves were ideologically opposed to the Judeo-Christian faith as set forth in the bible [though interpreted differently by Jews and Christians] and dedicated to the irradication of bible faith.

Now you may say but these regimes are in the history books both have passed away along with their politico-philosophical ideologies. But that ideology was and is atheism and atheism as a philosophy [I would say religion] is far from in the history books and passed away. It is very much in the ascendancy right here in Britain and the rest of Europe and I believe will one day and not in the very far future be at the heart of government again with all it’s hatred of the bible and of bible believing folk whether Jew or Christian.
