This was the very first animated popeye cartoon ever and was produced by Paramount pictures in 1933. Check the link below for everthing you could possibly wish to know about Popeye the sailorman. 

Popeye made his debut as a character in the comic strip ”Thimble Theatre” on January 17th 1929, it was a comic strip which had already become popular and had been running more than ten years featuring such personages as Olive Oyl and her boyfriend Ham Gravy. Popeyes opening line was when asked “are you a sailor?” he replied “ja think I’m a cowboy?” He soon went on to become the most popular character in the strip and one of the best loved cartoon characters of all time.

In 1933 Thimble Theatre was adapted into a series of cartoons for paramount pictures called Popeye the sailor, these continued until 1957. Robert Altman directed the 1980 live-action film Popeye.

  7. William Arnold Costello is the first Popeye voiceover, but he got fired for bad behavior, ironically he is the cousin of Benedict Arnold!
